News Release

Marshall Public Schools announced on Friday that the district experienced a situation in which it was determined that the district needed to go into a soft lockdown due to a report from police of an outside threat involving the use of guns and ammunition. The soft lockdown consisted of moving all students indoors and locking exterior doors. Following this procedure and after all students were secured inside the buildings, a second threat emerged at Bueker Middle School. It was reported that an unauthorized person was in Bueker Middle School. Bueker Middle School went into a full lockdown which consisted of all hallways being cleared and interior doors of the facility locked as well. Bueker administration initiated 911 and the Marshall Police Department responded to Bueker Middle School. The Marshall Police Department searched Bueker Middle School and did not find anyone that was not suppose to be in the building. After the all clear was given by police, all students were released approximately at 12:30 p.m. as buses arrived at the buildings to attend homecoming festivities. In response to the initial threat, the police took into custody two individuals Friday evening. The individuals were questioned and released. No charges were filed. There currently is no known threat to the safety and security of the students of Marshall Public Schools. School counselors will be available on Monday for students on an as needed basis. The Marshall Public Schools wishes to thank the Marshall Police Department for the quick response to Bueker Middle School.
